When people picture a mirror, they picture a plain rectangle of silvered glass. But the finish is where a custom mirror stops being a utility item and becomes part of the design. Antique, beveled, smoked, tinted – each finish changes the character of a room in a different way. Here’s a guide to the options we fabricate and where each one shines.
Antique Mirror
Antique-finish mirror is treated to create a distressed, aged appearance with subtle dark spotting and clouding across the surface. It trades a crisp reflection for warmth and character, which is exactly the point.
Best for: Bar backs, dining room feature walls, powder rooms, and any space going for a warm, collected, slightly vintage feel. It pairs especially well with the wood and brass finishes common in Louisiana interiors.
Beveled Edge
A bevel is an angled cut around the perimeter of the mirror that catches and refracts light along the edges. It’s a subtle detail that adds a traditional, finished look without the cost of a full frame.
Best for: Vanity mirrors, framed feature mirrors, and traditional or transitional homes where you want a touch of formality.
Smoked and Tinted Mirror
Smoked (gray) and bronze-tinted mirrors soften the reflection and add a moody, contemporary edge. They reflect less harshly than clear mirror, which can be a real advantage in a room with a lot of light.
Best for: Modern living spaces, feature walls, and commercial or hospitality interiors going for a sophisticated look.
Clear Mirror with Custom Edges and Shapes
Even a standard clear mirror becomes custom through its edge work and shape. Polished, pencil-edge, and beveled finishes each read differently, and because we cut every mirror to spec, arched, oval, and geometric shapes are just as achievable as a rectangle.
Backlit and Anti-Fog Options
Finish isn’t only about the glass surface. Integrated LED backlighting adds even, shadow-free light and a modern glow, and a built-in anti-fog pad keeps a bathroom mirror clear during and after a hot shower – a practical touch in humid Baton Rouge.
Built to Last in Louisiana
Whatever the finish, we use moisture-resistant backing and edge-sealing on our custom mirrors to prevent the black edge spotting that shows up on lower-quality mirrors in humid climates over time.
